The Washington, DC Metropolitan Area is serviced by numerous direct flights from two international airports and one national airport, plus a robust railway network connecting it to the Northeast Corridor and many regional centers. Multiple highways and surface roads provide access to a spectrum of ground transportation options, from intercity bus lines to taxis. Once your arrive, you'll discover how just walking can get you many places you'll want to go, especially with a little assistance from the Metro bus and rail system. Regarding visas for international travelers—ACM does not issue formal letters of invitation. However, travelers can request visa support letters from supportletters “at” acm “dot” org. Requests should include the following information:

  • Name as it appears on your passport
  • Mailing address
  • Email or fax number where you will receive the letter
  • Name of the conference, “12th ACM/IEEE-Computer Science Joint Conference on Digital Libraries”
  • Title and topic of your paper(s), if you are an author and/or presenter  for one or more of the technical sessions during the conference

Taxis—fares begin at $3, plus 27 cents per 1/8 mile applicable fees and surcharges. For trips between the airports and the conference vicinity budget: from BWI, $70–$80; from DCA, $15–$20; from IAD, $60–$70. The DC Taxicab Commission regulates fares.

Washington Flyer—inexpensive coach service between Dulles Airport and Metro West Falls Church Station, and taxi service to and from hotels
